People who play the roles of terrible, despicable, venal villains on TV or the movies, have to have a good sense of humor, right?

Yup….the alternate could be devastating to the mind 😀

I know, wouldn’t it just! Imagine the character leaching into your own personality! Ohh, that’s like a story prompt… 🙂

Absolutely. Like Woody Allen once said, “comedy is tragedy plus time”. All villains were once possessed by some sort of trauma or the other that would have shaped them. Over time, it has to result in some sort of comedic relief 🙂

I suppose it’s inevitable. What’s your perspective on the actor who plays the villain?

it would just come across (unfortunately) as being more authentic if the actor didn’t have a great life. Hugh Laurie, the guy who plays Dr House, is not really a villain in the truest sense but does things that can be construed as dastardly. I think he does a remarkable job because he is, in real life, admittedly a very bitter and distant human being!

His performance is indeed masterly! But you know, a long time ago I saw an interview of his, and he came across as really sweet and a bit shy. So I’ve been lost in admiration at his transformation as House, ever since! 🙂
